It's the time of year to throw the proverbial kitchen sink, big, ugly, realistic, gaudy, besides the big flows there are a lot of terrestrials active this time of year. The Tricos are emerging fairly heavily between 8 and 9:30 with the spinner fall around an hour later. Midges in the morning plus the new foods. These include caddis, PMDs and Tricos, which had all ready started very early. We're starting to see end of runoff hatches beginning. With the water dropping and warming up the fish are starting to move out of the deep holes and into shallower holding spots. High winds are expected the rest of this week with a return to above average temperatures next week and dry.įishing Conditions and Hatches: Fair-Good Chalk Bluff Road is still closed with no access downstream from the pit campground turnoff to the Chalk Bluff. DWP is actively dumping water out onto the valley floor in many areas.ĪLERT: Pleasant Valley Reservoir is open with access ONLY from Gorge road at the bottom of the grade. Not that it matters much (okay so it's good news for fishing PVR) but the algae bloom seems to have cleared up considerably. The water quality above 5 bridges has improved but still murky, blame it on Horton Creek which enters the river at gate #9. PVR road is still blocked and I'm not sure why anymore. It could be due to road damage but it hasn't stopped the quad drivers from sneaking in. Downstream take the second road past the campground, the third road is a mess. Deadman Creek is flowing through to Big Springs so the flows in the Upper Owens above Hot Creek are still high but coming down and cleaning up fast. The East Walker has dropped back down to 573 cfs and the river's clarity is up to 3'+. If you do get stuck the Troutfitter has the number. The road upstream from Benton Crossing is open but be very careful, the tow out is very expensive. ![]() The Gorge has reopened but the flows are still high. Flows are dropping steadily and the water is clearing up on most streams. The smaller streams like Bishop, Rock and Lee Vining creeks are starting to get into shape. The Troutfitter is open from 7 am to 7 pm. ![]()
